Sun Hill Special: Where are they now?

As I was flicking through my mates Inside Soap magazine, I saw a reader had written in asking what PC Dan Casper aka Chris Jarvis was up to now. It got me thinking (doesn't happen often I know!) what happens to the actors/actresses once they leave The Bill? So here's a quick look at what some of the male cast members have been doing since they left Sun Hill...

PC Dan Casper aka The Sun Hill Hurricane: We all know that the character of Dan left the force to become a bouncer in Ibiza but according to Inside Soap the actor Chris Jarvis is busy filming a part for the upcoming Mamma Mia movie. Nice one Dan!

PC Sam Harker: After Sam Harker's death in the 2002 Sun Hill fire, he's appeared in Brookside (RIP) as well as guest appearances in shows such as Casualty. Actor Matthew Crompton can now be seen walking on the Corrie cobbles playing bookie Dan Mason.

DC Rob Thatcher: Rob Thatcher was tragically shot dead *sob* by SO19 during the Radford storyline (another excellent storyline might I add). Since then actor Brian Bovell appeared in a number of shows but is currently best known for playing lovable waster Leo Valentine in soap Hollyoaks.

PC Gary Best: Aaw everyone's fave PC (later turned Acting DC) Gary Best. I was particularly sad to see Gary go as he fast became one of the best comedy characters in The Bill. Gary transferred from Sun Hill after taking a bullet- sad times. So it was from Sun Hill to Shameless. Actor Ciaran Griffiths can be seen in the Manc comedy drama playing the hilarious Mickey Maguire. Scatter.

DS Phil Hunter: Who can forget Phil Hunter? The cheeky chappie who had an eye for the ladies certainly made an impression wherever he went. A firm fave in Sun Hill. So it was a huge shock to us when out of the blue actor Scott Maslen announced he was joining EastEnders where he now plays (wait for it) ex copper Jack Branning! I miss you Phil and so do you lot according to the poll.

DC Brandon Kane: After escaping from crazy Cathy Bradford (she still gives me nightmares that woman), Brandon left Sun Hill to be with his kids, aaaw. In real life, actor Pal Aron (who I had a brief encounter with!) went on to star in Corrie but is currently playing a Doctor in drama The Royal Today.

DS Don Beech: Aka the corrupt copper. Currently on the run in The Bill, actor Billy Murray went on to appear as gangster Johnny Allen in EastEnders (whose daughter Ruby Allen went on to appear in The Bill as PC Beth Green, mental!). With a few projects in the pipeline I'm sure it's not long till we see him back on our screens. Maybe even another return to Sun Hill?.....

PC Eddie Santini: With his Italian good looks and sense of humour, Eddie was a popular member of the force. But he was a bit of a b****** and the rest of the relief clocked on to this. Santini was last seen dead after taking a bullet. Like most of the cast *cough* actor Michael Higgs joined Eastenders playing Andy Hunter (a gangster) who was later killed by Don Beech, I mean Johnny Allen. Michael is currently filming a role for film 'Prisoners of the Sun', supporting a beard...

And last but not least.

Sgt Matt Boyden: I had to include ol' Matt because it gives me a great excuse to show a certain advert he did last year (you'll be able see it in a minute!) When Matt Boyden was gunned down on the street, that was it for him. So since then actor Tony O'Callaghan too appeared on several shows including Irish soap Fair City. But last year it was a pleasant surprise to see Boyden handing out tissues for a Kleenex ad. Enjoy!

Warning Spoiler: Keane and the gang

Remember how I told you there was more to come regarding Stone's gang and PC Emma Keane? Well here it is boys and girls. In the next couple of weeks we are going to see some major drama! If you want to find out just highlight the text below....

Spoiler> Situation goes something like this: Two explosions go off in London and the Sun Hill officers alongside Barton Street take charge as chaos unfolds.

Sgt Callum Stone and PC Emma Keane realise a man has been pretending to be a doctor in order to molest injured women! Eurgh! So when Stone gives chase to this sicko it's clear that he's going to serve some of that rough justice...but Keane can't watch. This isn't the policing she wanted in on.

But tragedy strikes! When Meadows tells Keane that another bomb is going to off, the brave PC runs in the building to save as many lives as she can. Feeling guilty Stone runs into the building to try and find Keane but is too late. The entire building falls down with PC Emma Keane trapped inside! Stone finds Keane and attempts CPR but can he save her?????

I can't wait! Ooooooooooh!

Do you wanna be in my gang?

When Sgt Callum Stone first came on our screens, I thought "hey wasn't he on London's Burning?" haha but as well as that I thought "hmm there's gotta be more to this guy than meets the eye".

And you know what, I think I was right.
I mean so far we've learnt that if you get on the wrong side of the Sarge or if you don't like his policing methods then there's the door, off you go. It was a shame that PC Dan Casper and PC Leela Kapoor had to find out the hard way.

If you do get on the right side of the Sarge then you're lucky. Cos from what we've seen he'll look out for you. Loyalty means alot to Stone and him sticking his neck out for the relief has seen the formation of "Stone's Gang"...

Current members of the gang are: PC Will Fletcher, PC Sally Armstrong and PC Ben Gayle.

How do you get to be in his gang? Basically, you mess up and then Sun Hill's very own Jimmy Saville, Stone fixes it for you. All on the hush hush of course. You're then out of guilt a member of 'the gang'. 'The Gang' then set out to bring you justice, even if it's rough and not very 'on the level', like this.

Best way to describe Stone: Good Cop, Bad Cop (as his first episode was titled)

What's in store for "Stone's Gang": Well there's alot more to come from them, expect to see jealousy of the gang especially from a certain PC Emma Keane...

Scenes that shocked Sun Hill (2)

Sun Hill has had its fair share of drama over the years from bent coppers to petrol bombs. Yep, this station has seen it all. In 'Scenes that shocked Sun Hill' we look back over the storylines that gripped the nation (in no particular order). So sit back and reminisce...

Finding Amy: The case of missing seven-year-old Amy Tennant was one of the longest storylines to be featured in The Bill, lasting over a year.
Amy had mysteriously vanished from her home and since then the search for Amy had began with twists and turns along the way.
DI Neil Manson (spitting image of Alan Shearer wouldn't you say?) was assigned to the case. With excellent performances from Amy's father James Tennant (Neil Stuke) the situation tried to reflect real life by taking a year to conclude the storyline.
Eventually Amy was found alive and well (phew!) in Brighton after being abducted and taken to France by a family friend. Finally reunited with her father, that was the end of this excellent storyline.

The Accused: Back in 2002, PC Tony Stamp was faced with an accusation of sexual harassment by a young lad named Lee Dwyer. PC Stamp had befriended Dwyer after the young lad nominated him for 'Community Bobby of the year'.
The relationship was entirely innocent but when Dwyer's stepfather accused Stamp of abusing his son, suspicions were aroused. Especially as it was confirmed in a medical examination that Lee Dwyer had been sexually assaulted (oh dear).
Stamp was suspended and faced abuse from residents and even hostility from those in the relief *coughJimCarvercough*.
When DC Brandon Kane discovered that it was Dwyer's real father who had been abusing him, Stamp's name was cleared, yay! The traumatic incident was over and he returned to work.

Webb's Ordeal: In a harrowing storyline which brought male rape into the public eye, DC Mickey Webb was tied up, viciously assaulted and raped by criminal Martin Delaney in a warehouse.
It was Sgt Smith who found Mickey but was sworn to secrecy about the incident.
Mickey couldn't bear to talk to anyone about it.
In Sun Hill he started a fight with Sgt Smith, which was broken up my Meadows as he believed Smith had told of his ordeal.
Mickey went awol. Meadows discovered Mickey at his mothers grave where Mickey broke down and told all about the brutal attack.
Delaney was eventually arrested by DC Webb who had then reported the assault. However, he was unable to face the station and decided to leave. He transferred to MIT but would return to Sun Hill a couple of years later.

Bobbies on the beat

Remember that image? Of course you do. This has to be the most iconic image from The Bill. For those of you who don't know, the end credits from the show had two coppers (male and female) walking together. What's so good about that? Well they were in sync! Both put their left foot first, then their right and so on. Trust me it was better than i'm making out. See for yourself.

I'm sure i'm not the only one who has recreated the 'walking together in sync whilst humming the theme tune' scene with a friend at some point....

Goose joins The Bill

I remember Claire Goose when she played Tina in Casualty

So apparently four new characters will be joining The Bill- including former Casualty star Claire Goose.

On Digital Spy it says that Goose will play Sergeant Rachel Watson and will appear on our screens in July. The other new recruits are PCs Leon Taylor (Dominic Power) Millie Brown (Clare Foster) and Arun Ghir (Abhin Galeya).

Producer Tim Key said: "These are exciting times for The Bill and our new arrivals will add a dynamic and intriguing energy to our already fantastic cast."

Exciting times indeed.

Back in February it was announced that two new DC's were also joining the cast: DC Jacob Banks played by Patrick Robinson and DC Mel Ryder played by Rhea Bailey (sister of singer Corinne Bailey Rae).

Whilst i truly am excited at the new characters arriving in Sun Hill, to me it seems that we've had quite few new characters already like DS Max Carter for one. It just worries me that people coming in, means people going out. We know it's certain that Reggies leaving but who else then??

Scenes that shocked Sun Hill (1)

Sun Hill has had its fair share of drama over the years from bent coppers to petrol bombs. Yep, this station has seen it all. In 'Scenes that shocked Sun Hill' we look back over the storylines that gripped the nation (in no particular order). So sit back and reminisce...

Kiss Kiss...Sgt Craig Gilmore and (straight but confused) PC Luke Ashton locked lips in the locker room in a storyline which got the nation talking.
This passionate embrace sparked around 300 complaints with viewers complaining it shouldn't have been shown pre-watershed (it was the first gay kiss to be shown before 9pm). Ooh er!

...Bang Bang: The end of Sgt Matt Boyden. After sleeping with DI Samantha Nixon's underage daughter (15 at the time tut tut), Boyden wasn't a popular guy. So it wasn't a huge surprise to see him gunned down on the street, which sparked the question "Who shot Sgt Matt Boyden?" The storyline carried on in The Bill spin-off show 'M.I.T: Murder Investigation Team' which revealed his junkie daughter Amy to be behind the shooting. Killed by your own daughter-not cool.

Serial Thriller: A serial killer was on the loose! And one of Sun Hill's very own was to be the next victim. On her way to the Sun Hill Christmas party, PC Cass Rickman was abducted and killed by the serial killer. The bubbly Scousers body was found washed up on the Thames by PC Nick Klein (who was secretly in love with her).
Simon Kitson, her boyfriend and journalist was arrested as he was connected to all the victims but committed suicide while he was locked up in the cell.
The serial killer was in fact Pat Kitson, Simon's sister who was in love with her brother and couldn't bear to see him with anyone else......honest.

Hot Under the Collar

Ladies (and Gentleman) you're in for a treat.
It was 'non-uniform' day for the men at Sun Hill as they turned up for a special photo shoot in their civvies. Featured on THE BILL website, the cast agreed to do a photo shoot wearing their own clothes.

Those boys in blue certainly have style. Stylish and Sexy...*whistles*

Fancy having a look at Sgt Smith and co out of their uniform?

And the winner is....

*drum roll please*

THE BILL!!!!

That's right. Battle of the soaps? Pfft there was only one clear winner.

At the Royal Television Society Programme Awards last night, The Bill came out on top winning the award for Best Soap and Continuing Drama.
The show beat the likes of Coronation Street and Holby City to bag the award.
A wonderful accolade for the show, getting the recognition it deserves. Let's crack open the champers ey!

All the other winners (and losers)

Warning: Unmissa-bill

OH EM GEE!
We are in for another storyline treat in the next couple of weeks. I'm just picking up my jaw from the floor as i type this.

Can't wait? Are you really really really sure you want to know? Ok...just highlight the text below...

Word on the street is that a junkie somehow manages to inject a dirty syringe full of heroin into DC Stuart Turner's neck!!!! But wait...the same junkie tells the other coppers that the needle was infected with HIV! Ohmygoodgosh. It's down to the Guv'nor to break the bad news to the sweater wearing DC.

How am I going to sleep at night! :O

Reggie Babe

It's been a turbulent time for actor Jeff Stewart aka Sun Hill's favourite PC, Reg Hollis.

Following the sad news that Stewart tried to commit suicide after being sacked from the show, it's nice to hear that he is on the mend.

PC Reg Hollis is one of a kind and the show won't be the same without him. Alongside PC Des Taviner, the duo formed one of my favourite partnerships in Sun Hill. It will be sad to see him go.

However an online petition has been formed to keep "Reggie babe" on The Bill. If you would like to show your support visit http://www.savereg.co.uk/ and see if your signature can make a difference.

Get Well Soon Reggie Babe :)

Double Crossing DC

One of the best things about The Bill is the fantastic characters that have walked through the Sun Hill station doors and then walked back out. Some that I was glad to see the back of but most I was sad to see leave.

Yes in this section I remember The Old Bill...the characters that are no longer on screen but forever in my heart: Step up (ex) DC ZAIN NADIR.

DC Zain Nadir first came on to our screens as undercover drug dealer 'Adi Mateen'. Thankfully the guv'nor (DCI Jack Meadows incase you didn't know) read my mind and offered Zain a job at Sun Hill CID.

The character of Zain was a breath of fresh air, with his charm and dare I say it handsomeness *swoon*. He was a copper who lets be honest would bend the rules slightly if it meant getting a result. Alright, he didn't quite play it by the book but he was a good copper and more importantly a great character.

His biggest storyline, one of the best storylines in recent times, was another undercover gig. Zain would pose as a bent copper to bring down drug dealer/businesswoman Kirsten Shaw......

But naughty Zain commited the ulitmate undercover sin and fell for the EVIL Kirsten Shaw tut tut tut. To be fair on Zain, Kirsten wasn't your average drugs baron with her long blonde hair and red lips but how could he! Poor Zain was confused. How could he fall in love with a criminal who dealt drugs? (He vowed to get justice on drug dealers following the death of his little sister Jessica to drugs). Unfortunately for DC Nadir he couldn't bare to see his lover behind bars and turned to the Dark Side, becoming a bent cop for real. Did i tell you what a BRILLIANT storyline this was? Every episode leading up to the finale was unmissable with twists and turns along the way. I'm afraid i'm going to have to cut a long story short and get to the end.

Eventually CID twigged that DC Zain Nadir had been playing them for a fool and Zain Nadir and Kirsten Shaw were eventually arrested. He had let everyone down and following the unfortunate murder of PC Honey Harman by Kirsten Shaw he was a hated man in Sun Hill.

So off he went to serve his time at her Majesty's pleasure. Sad times :(

That was the end of Zain Nadir...

Or was it?

Zain was back for a Crimbo special last year! Wooohoooo! It was time to make amends with Sun Hill and Meadows, and use his inside knowledge to bring down a dangerous drug deal. Returning in his crisp white shirt and grey suit *swoon* he was back in Sun Hill on a days release...much to the delight of the relief, especially a certain PC Will Fletcher and his fist.

Zain showed he wasn't a bad person at heart when he chose to help tackle a dangerous criminal and save Meadows rather than run away. But he could not be forgiven for what he had done in the past.

This truly was the last we ever saw of Zain Nadir.

Wherever you are Zain you will always be in my heart x

If you can't get enough of Zain Nadir than visit actor T J Ramini's website
